A real world Orren Boyle

In Atlas Shrugged, Orren Boyle is the corrupt owner of Associated Steel who uses his government connections to protect his business and obtain the rights to make Rearden Metal.

In the current Health Care Reform story, Pfizer CEO Jeffery Kindler is an Orren Boyle. There are almost certainly others. Expect more of these ‘deals’ to be revealed.

Pfizer was long a company that zealously guarded against government interference. Prior CEOs had seen how European governments had ruined its industry and recognized the threat. When the board made Mr. Kindler CEO in 2006—picking a relative newbie over insiders—it was a vote for shakeup. Mr. Kindler changed a lot more than the business. [...]

In 2009 Pfizer became the fourth largest federal lobbyist, spending nearly $25 million. The year before it hadn’t even made the top 20. [...]

Any of this sound familiar?

From 1985 but it seems like our real threat was domestic and not foreign.

Government Snow Job

Government Snow Job

Total definition in one animation. Thousands of lobbyists on both sides of every issue. Thousands of lawyers and accountants – half looking for loopholes and the other half trying to close loopholes. See 67, 024+ pages of 2008 tax code. Follow the link and see how utterly stupid, and a waste of resources, the current tax code is as implemented. Is it any wonder that if you call the IRS on a tax question your odds of getting the correct answer is 57 out of 100? Yet this is noting new. From ‘The Lessons of History‘, it was first observed in Rome – 2000 years ago!

Unemployment Rate Explained

This shows how you can have a decrease in the unemployment rate while jobs are lost. (The denominator is the number of people LOOKING for work and NOT the total who have lost their jobs.)

Bias? Journalism? Or Biased-Journalism?

Any wonder Fox News is the most widely watched cable news channel? The Newsweek reporter who was actually on scene was much more fair and balanced – except for the anger word. Anyone else think the quality of news fell when reporters became journalists?

Visualizing the Obama budget freeze

Do not watch this visualization of the “budget freeze”! It will be SEARED, really SEARED, into your memory! On the other hand, that is economist speak, it works for even the math challenged – and those of us too lazy to read the whole budget.

See the numbers at Political Math blog. This was done before the president’s 2011 budget was posted so it uses projected numbers. Visualization difference? Most likely of an eye dropper nature.

Tea Party Convention

You can watch PJTV live at National Tea Party Convention – registration required but NOT subscription. Plus you can take their survey without registering.

Sheesh! They let some Birthers speak so that will most likely be on all the TV news.

Palin, playing both ends, against the middle?

Very popular Sarah Palin seems to be playing both ends against the middle. Wanting to appear as an outsider, and at the same time supporting some Rino’s. An example being, Supporting liberal John McCain, moderate Rick Parry, and conservative Rand Paul. Better choices would be conservative Debra Medina vs. Rick Parry, and conservative J.D. Hayworth (six term congressman) vs John McCain. It would appear that Palin is looking for firm ground within the GOP, while trying to be a populist with the people!

Is Obama on the right track?

Unemployment just dropped from 10%, to 9.7%, as reported by the press. In spite of these numbers anther 100K+ lost their jobs, kind of hard to wrap your arms around. As more people loose their jobs, and more people give up looking for a job, the percent of unemployed will continue to drop, as will be reported by the press. It’s quite possible that at the end of Obamas term as President, the unemployment rate may be (0) zero. Now, to explain that. There are no jobs, so no one can look for what does not exist. All unemployment benefits have long since expired, so in the eyes of the administration, we will have full employment. I think Obama is on to something, true progressive leadership!
