Dept. of Education Report Card
But the government will DO MUCH better in the health care business.
This was clipped from ABC This Week 8-28-10 Crisis in the Classroom (Part 1). Odds are the grandparents of the youngsters taking these tests would score as well or better. Ever notice how everything the government touches seems to go downhill? The reason is our Congress abdicates true oversight to bureaucrats whose primary goal, at least for far too many, is to expand their bureaucracy so they can get a pay increase.
How bad is the SEC?
If you don’t have time to read the book by Harry Markopolos, No One Would Listen (highly recommended), just do a search on “Harry Markopolos interview”.

It took Harry Markopolos, the Greek Geek (his term), five minutes to know Madoff was a fraud. It took him four hours of mathematical modeling to prove it was fraud. SEC? Clueless after many years – even after he handed them proof beyond doubt. From the Fraud Magazine interview:
The Federal Grand Jury is the 4th Branch of Government
The Federal Grand Jury is the 4th Branch of Government
All of us may one day serve as grand jurors in federal court, and I hope this article will educate the reader to his/her true power as granted by the Constitution. For that power, despite having been hidden for many years behind the veil of a legislative fraud, still exists in all of its glory in the 5th Amendment to the Constitution. The US Supreme Court has confirmed and reinforced that power.
The REAL cost of K-12 education
Here is everything you need to understand the problem.

Concealed Weapons Ruling
Concealed Weapons Ruling
Sioux City, IA (KICD)–A Federal court case yields a somewhat stunning verdict.
On Wednesday U.S. District Court Judge Mark Bennett announced that Osceola County Sheriff Doug Weber’s denial of Paul Dorr’s concealed weapon permit in 2007 “was the most egregious violation of the 1st Amendment he has witnessed in his 16 years serving on the bench.”
According to Attorney Daniel Dekoter the case was originally was filed under the 2nd Amendment with all fo those claims dismissed before the trial as having no legal merit.
Dorr’s attorney’s Bill Mohrman and Vince Fahlander state that Sheriff Weber state that in sworn deposition testimony in November 2009 that Weber denied Paul Dorr’s conceal carry permit because of Paul Dorr’s speech and political activities in Osceola County.
Dekoter says his impression is that although Dorr claimed that the sheriff was prejudiced against him because of activities with the Osceola County Taxpayers Association, the sheriff actually issued a permit to the President of that group and also to Dorr’s wife.
Judge Bennett announced that he hadn’t passed judgment from the bench before, always taking it under consideration and issuing a written judgment later. But in Paul Dorr’s case he ruled for the first time, from the bench, on behalf of Dorr.
Our friend Amity Shlaes looks at the Glenn Beck effect
The University Guild vs. Glenn Beck
By Amity Shlaes
Drive them crazy. That’s what Glenn Beck seems to specialize in doing, whether the “them” at issue is fellow radio hosts, fellow tv hosts, or, now, professors at universities. This last group is opening its own front in the war against the television king. An associate professor, Joseph Palermo of California State/Sacramento, took to the Huffington Post to mock the broadcaster as “Glenn Beck, Ph.D.” I personally noticed this since Professor Palermo mentioned me by name, in tandem with author Jonah Goldberg, as an effort to “misinform” the gullible.
Remembering the recent past
Remember the oil fires in Kuwait? Such wailing and gnashing of teeth. The talking heads told us it could take up to five years, or more, to put out all the oil well fires. The black smoke effect would be almost as bad as “nuclear winter “.
Then someone interviewed a fellow from Boots & Coots. He was dressed in a red jumpsuit with a hard hat – all covered in crude. He was asked how long it would take to put out the fires. With a heavy Texas drawl, don’t remember if he was chewing and spitting, he said that if the Kuwaities could achieve what they asked, he figured they could put them out in six months to a year. What? All those educated folks were telling us it would be years and years! According to them, it was almost an impossible task.
They (B&C), and all the other well fire fighters, were waiting to see if the Kuwait Oil Company could pump water from the Persian Gulf back to the oil fields using the same pipelines that had been used to pipe oil to the ports. They did. Within six months most of the fires were out. Only a few remained. These were wells that had all of the above ground hardware blown away by Saddam’s rigged explosives. There was no exposed pipe. The oil and fire blew up from a bomb like crater. But three months later they had all the fires out. The lesson, repeated throughout history, is to listen to those who actually do the work. They don’t teach this in college except for the very best engineering schools.

Bus trip planned
The President of the United States will be in Iowa City this Thursday , March 25th expecting a warm welcome for the new health care overhaul.
LETS GIVE HIM HELL!!!!!!!!
Obama will be at the Field-house on the University of Iowa campus at 1pm on Thursday. I believe the doors open at 10am but am not certain. We will be planning a respectful protest around the Field-house.
Let Larry or Joy know as soon as possible if you are interested in riding a bus to Iowa City this Thursday 25th when President Obama will be there. Busing will start out in Sioux Falls, SD and Minneapolis, MN. They can stop at county seats along the way to pick up people interested in making their presence known in Iowa City in opposition to the health care bill that President Obama will be talking about there.
They are asking people to bring their bull horns, signs, and flags. The bus will arrive by noon in Iowa City (President Obama will be speaking at 1:00). They want to know how many stops to make and how many people want to be picked up along the way.
Send this to anyone interested in the surrounding areas.
E-mail me as soon as possible if you are interested in joining others in Iowa City this Thursday.
