Good News -

Allen West won!

Tim Scott – An American of African Descent.

All said and done, the Republicans elected a much more ethnic diverse set of candidates than the Democrats. Most minorities are much more conservative in values, family, and economics than the average Democrat.

Florida’s Alan Grayson lost – Beck will be pleased.

Republicans also won big in state elections – Governors and Legislatures.

Both California and Florida passed special ballot issues to take redistricting out of the hands of their state legislatures. Like Iowa did decades ago! The Tea Party movement should take this up as an issue for ALL states.

Some bad news -

Restoring Sanity and/or Fear Rally

Roundup of comments and crowd estimates. The Hill – a straw poll:

86 percent of participants surveyed said they planned to vote Democratic this week, with eight percent undecided and just one percent voting Republican.

Right away you realize this crowd, and perhaps the Stewart and Colbert fans, do not represent the national demographic. Or perhaps it is just the idealism of youth. I wonder how many of them actually have a job and pay taxes?

The BBC looks at US 2010 & Palin

It should embarrass the US media when a foreign media, supported by public funding, generally viewed as leaning left, gives a more balanced view of Sarah Palin.

Anyone else think Sarah Palin could be the modern day Andrew Jackson? The establishment didn’t think much of him either but much of the population rejected the idea of anointed candidates by the establishment. He was the first President out of the frontier. Sarah Palin could be the President from the last frontier.

Andrew Jackson split the population into two camps and he certainly left a mixed legacy. However, he is the only President to end his term with a national debt of zero.

Parallels between Today and the Great Depression

From Reason TV – you can read the script or watch the video. If history doesn’t repeat, it sure does rhyme – Mark Twain.

Economic models do not have an uncertainty variable, which is why this administration claimed unemployment would stay below 8%. I learned about economic uncertainty from my grandfathers. The uncertainly was the result of FDR and Congress passing so many massive legislation programs that after two years, everyone, from bankers to ditch diggers, hunkered down and hung on to their cash. It was foolish to consider any kind of investment because the next years legislation might kill your investment and you would be out even more cash.

I don’t have a Ph.D. in economics, but I would wager once the population goes into hunker down mode, no amount of government stimulus is going to work.

The Best of the Best – Its in the genes

What you have to love about this story is the crew was ranked low because they lacked discipline – and then there is that whole 666 thing. But they knew more guns was the next best thing to fighter escorts. Also note he references the Nov. 1 invasion of Japan. There are a lot of baby boomers alive today because that invasion never happened.

I think that exchange could be considered a smackdown by Rove.

Despinning the Whitehouse white board

Keith Hennessey on CEA Chairman Austan Goolsbee’s white board. Blloomberg also – boulders = uncertainty.

Here is the take away. The US economy is HUGE. Passing a piece of legislation might cause the stock market to move but it will take months to see the results in economic statistics. It is like the world’s largest ship traveling on the ocean. You can scream “Full left, or right, rudder – full speed ahead”, and the ship does nothing. Well at least not for some time. It turns out Newtonian physics also applies to large economies. Goolsbee claims economic results for passing legislation which is absolutely absurd!
