Is the space program dead?

Not at all according to Bill Whittle.

The NASA program was like the Corps of Discovery – a government program to explore new frontiers.

Next came the Mountain Men. True explorers but they earned their keep, mostly through trapping, while working for private business. But they were true adventurers that used trapping to pay for their love of exploring – to see what was over the next ridge or mountain. This is where we are in the space program today. Some of these small space companies are future Boeings, or they will be bought up by the likes of Boeing.

When the beaver fur trade fell away, many of the mountain men found work leading wagon trains, helping surveyors map train routes, or shooting buffalo to feed the train workers.

NASA should be working on new propulsion systems because we can’t even get to Mars in a single recoverable launch vehicle.
